Feldt Grace

The Silent Voice

In the universe of Mobile Suit Gundam 00, where space battles and political intrigue dominate the storyline, there are characters who, without wielding a weapon, prove to be essential to the fight. Feldt Grace is one of these key figures: a quiet, observant, and highly skilled young woman whose evolution throughout the series makes her a symbol of personal growth and determination.

Raised in the Shadow of a Cause

Feldt Grace was born in the year 2293, in a world marked by conflicts between factions with different geopolitical interests. But her personal story began even before her birth. Her parents, Ruido Resonance and Marlene Vlady, were first-generation Gundam Meisters within Celestial Being. However, tragedy shaped her fate: both were killed during a mission, leaving Feldt orphaned at a very young age.

Without a traditional family, Feldt was raised within Celestial Being, making the organization her only home. This environment greatly influenced her personality: she grew up with a reserved and distant mindset, lacking the warmth of a typical childhood. Her way of communicating with the world was through machines and the operating systems of the Ptolemaios ship, where she would soon prove to be an essential crew member.

More Comfortable with Machines Than with People

From the beginning of the series, Feldt is portrayed as an extremely reserved individual. Her neutral expression and calm tone of voice contrast with the more extroverted personalities of other crew members. In many ways, she seems more comfortable in the company of Haro, Lockon Stratos' small robotic companion, than with other humans.

However, her apparent coldness does not mean she lacks emotions. Through small gestures and glances, Feldt reveals her deep sense of loyalty and her desire to connect with others. The difference is that, unlike more expressive characters, Feldt struggles with how to show what she feels.

The Losses That Shaped Her Path

One of the most defining moments in Feldt's life is the death of Lockon Stratos (Neil Dylandy). To her, Lockon was more than just a skilled pilot—he was one of the few people who treated her warmly and made her feel valued within the crew. His loss was devastating and forced her to confront grief in an entirely new way.

Another significant emotional blow was the death of Christina Sierra, her colleague and one of the few friends she had. Christina represented the more human side of the Ptolemaios crew, someone who tried to bring Feldt out of her shell and help her connect with others. Her death left a void in Feldt, reinforcing her sense of isolation but also giving her a new perspective on the importance of personal bonds.

The Weight of Legacy and the Arrival of a New Lockon

When Lyle Dylandy, Neil’s twin brother, joins Celestial Being and assumes the name Lockon Stratos, Feldt experiences evident emotional confusion. In him, she sees the reflection of the man she admired and, in some way, loved. However, Lyle is a completely different individual from his brother—less idealistic, more pragmatic, and with a different approach to war.

Throughout the second season, Feldt must accept that Lyle is not a second chance to relive her connection with Neil but rather someone with whom she must build an entirely new relationship. This internal struggle is one of the most subtle yet interesting aspects of her character development.

A Silent Love and the Flower That Says Everything

Among all her relationships, the most unexpected is the one she develops with Setsuna F. Seiei, the series’ protagonist. Although their connection is not romantic in a traditional sense, there is a key moment in which Feldt expresses her feelings in the purest way possible—by giving him a desert flower.

In a world filled with war and technology, such a simple gesture carries deep meaning. Feldt, who has always struggled to express emotions, finds in this act a way to show her appreciation and hope. Although Setsuna, due to his own distant nature, does not respond as expected, the moment symbolizes Feldt’s emotional growth and her willingness to open her heart, even in the midst of conflict.

From Operator to Key Mission Member

Feldt starts the series as a tactical operator, but over time, she becomes much more than that. She learns to make critical decisions under pressure, helps coordinate high-risk missions, and becomes someone the entire crew can rely on.

In the second season and in Gundam 00: Awakening of the Trailblazer, Feldt demonstrates remarkable maturity. Though she never becomes a fighter, her role in the crew is indispensable. She is no longer the quiet girl who merely follows orders; she is now someone who actively contributes to Celestial Being’s success, both in battle and in the mission to restore peace.

Feldt Grace is not a heroine in the traditional sense. She does not pilot a Gundam, does not lead battles, and does not deliver grand speeches. However, her presence in Gundam 00 is fundamental to the story and to the audience.

Her evolution from an introverted, lonely girl to a strong, emotionally aware young woman is a reminder that not all battles are won with weapons. Sometimes, personal growth, the ability to face grief, and the will to move forward are the greatest victories.

In a universe where war seems endless, Feldt Grace is proof that true strength can also be found in calmness, loyalty, and the determination to keep going, no matter how dark the galaxy around us may seem.
